Introduction

We love kids. Much of our practice at Village Park Dental is dentistry for children. According to the US Surgeon report on oral health titled, ‘Healthy People, 2010,’ an estimated 29% of all children aged 6 to 8 and as many as 44% of all children aged 6 to 8 from households with less than a high school level education have untreated dental decay. Based on this report, the incidence of childhood tooth decay is high. This data is substantial evidence that parents should see to it that their children not only see their dentist twice a year but also practice good oral health habits at home. Proper brushing and flossing as well as watching the family nutrition, diet, and between-meal snacks is key to preventing childhood tooth decay.

Nevertheless, even with proper brushing, children are prone to develop cavities which require dental repair. As a result, it is important for your children to see the dentist at least twice a year for biannual checkups and cleanings. Should problems develop between appointments, your children should see the dentist as soon as possible.
