Don’t panic if you see some white pieces of stone-like material coming out from your mouth, flossing your teeth. It is probably not your teeth but only pieces of tartar that have broken off while flossing your teeth. Read below to learn more.

Tartar Is..?

The plaque on your teeth turns into tartar, which is made up of bacteria and unremoved food particles from your mouth. When plaques stay in place for a long time, it hardens into tartar.

How To Control Your Tartar?

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for a minimum of two minutes, each time using fluoride toothpaste. Try using a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  • Floss your teeth after you have finished brushing them. This will remove small particles left behind.
  • Rinse your mouth daily with an antiseptic mouthwash. This will help kill bacterias.
  • Stay away from sugary foods. Sugar in foods hard your teeth and enamel.
  • Do not smoke, as smoking promotes the development of tartar.

If you are still not sure if it was tartar that broke off while flossing your teeth, come in for a quick consultation at Village Park Family Dental. Call us at (281)-376-4444 for more information.
