An excellent alternative to metal brackets and wires used with traditional braces are clear plastic aligners. Invisalign is the registered trade name of a patented clear aligner product used in place of brackets and wires to straighten patients’ crooked teeth, deep bites, over bite, or excessive bite wear on the teeth. Each aligner in the set is designed to move the teeth closer and closer to the desired end position. The aligners are almost invisible and are removable when eating or for any special occasion. Designing the aligners is done through a proprietary computer process based on a thorough analysis of the patient’s teeth and bone structure. A 3-D model is simulated for the existing teeth as well as for the desired positioning following alignment. This model provides the basis for designing and building the clear aligner set.
