Benefits of Using an Electric Toothbrush

To keep the mouth healthy, it’s important to brush at least twice daily. While manual toothbrushes will do the job well enough, there are some benefits to opting for an electric toothbrush. Some of them are outlined below:

    • They are more effective than manual toothbrushes

The average adult can brush at about 300 strokes per minutes. An electric toothbrush, however, rotates at between 7,000 to 30,000 strokes per minutes. This means you are removing plaque and food debris faster and your brushing sessions are more effective.
Electric toothbrushes also have built-in timers. These ensure that all your sessions last long enough to clean your mouth properly.

    • Electric toothbrushes are easier to use

Children along with old people that have health issues often struggle to brush effectively with manual toothbrushes because their wrists are not strong enough. Electric toothbrushes make things easier by doing all the work for them.
Also, with manual toothbrushes, you have to be careful not to brush your teeth too aggressively. If you do, you risk enamel erosion and gum recession. Alternatively, if you don’t brush hard enough, you risk plaque buildup and cavities. These problems do not exist with electric toothbrushes. All you need to do is hold the brush to your teeth, it is programmed to brush with optimal pressure and intensity.

  • They are durable and provide long-term value

Electric toothbrushes are more expensive than their manual counterparts. In the long run, however, they provide more value. The American Dental Association recommends that toothbrushes are replaced every 3 months. With electric toothbrushes, you only have to replace the bristle head. The machine itself may last for 10 years or longer.

If you take good care of your teeth, you reduce the risk of dental health problems and cut down on dental visits. Endeavor, however, to always visit a dental facility twice a year for a professional check-up.
