Brushing Mistakes That Everyone is Making

Brushing is supposed to be an easy activity, after all, most people have been doing it since they were kids. It is surprising, then, to find that millions of people are making the same brushing mistakes. Some of those mistakes are highlighted below:

You are using the wrong brushing technique

Do you ONLY run your toothbrush across your teeth like you are playing the violin? If yes, you are brushing the wrong way. Your toothbrush is supposed to go under the upper row of teeth and on top of your lower row. That way, you clean out the crevices in your teeth and gums; that is where food particles and bacteria hide.

The bristles on your toothbrush are too hard

When you use a toothbrush with hard bristles, you are likely to hurt your gums while brushing. Therefore, you find yourself not brushing well enough or instinctively afraid to scrub some parts of your mouth thoroughly.

You have been using the same toothbrush for almost a year

Toothbrushes are supposed to be changed every 3 months and with good reason. After weeks of sustained use, the bristles on a toothbrush are no longer compact enough to effectively clean the teeth.

You sometimes skip brushing at night

Every night, brushing seems like a lot of work and you wonder if it is really necessary to brush twice daily. It is. Studies say that over 90% of dental problems can be avoided just by brushing twice every day.

Bad oral hygiene leads to tooth decay, gum disease, and a number of other serious dental issues. If you have not been brushing well, you may be suffering from one of these health problems and a thorough dental checkup will help you catch whatever condition may be developing in your mouth before it escalates.
